She didn't want to cry. Monako was afraid, and hurt, but she was trying to be brave. Brave like her uncles, like her father and mother. They never showed their fear, even when they were in trouble, and she was trying so hard to be like them.

But she couldn't keep the tear from rolling down her face as she stumbled along the dark streets of the unfamiliar city, holding her burned arm to her chest and dressed in a torn night gown. She sobbed as she stumbled again, her bare feet catching painfully on the uneven sidewalk.

She stopped to lean against a wall, closing her eyes tightly against the tears.

"Alec... kaa-san..." she sobbed with a hiccup, finally sliding to her knees. She just wanted to go home...

"Alec?!" Mona cried out, hearing her brother before she ever saw him. She looked around where she was sitting, finally spotting the bouncing boy running in her direction.

"Alec!" she called out again, trying to get to her feet but finding it painful to do so. "Ahn--... owie..."

Sadly for Mona's injuries, Alec launched himself at her in a hug. "Mona I'm so glad you're here! I want you to meet DaiDai, and Alex and everyone else!"

"OWWWW!" Mona couldn't help but scream as she fell back, rolling on her back with her brother on top of her. "Get off GET OFF! That hurts, Alec!"

"Liar! How could it hurt!? I just hugged you cause I haven't seen you in a long time!" Alec retorted, not getting up off his sister.

Mona groaned, twisting until she could free her arm and show him the burn on it. Just the contact alone had caused it to sting painfully, fingers shaking terribly from the injury.

Alec stared at the burn mark and remembered that night that had happened months ago for him. "But that's what that bad man did..." He said, not understanding what was really going on.

Mona nodded, flopping back on the sidewalk with another groan. It was getting hard to breathe, between the injuries and Alec sitting on her, and her head was spinning from it all.

"Get... off... please..."

"Mou...okay, okay." He said, slightly confused and disappointed. His sister didn't seem quite as happy to see him as he was to see her.

Well that's what happens when people are in pain, Alec.

"... where's kaa-san and tou-san... ?"

"At home with Raito-ojiisan." He said with a grin. "But Aren-ojiisan lives with Duo-ojiisan now."

"... what."

Monako was... very confused. Very, very confused.

"Kaa-san and Papa are at home! Duh!" Grabbing her hand, Alec began to drag her along.

He grabbed her good hand, but that didn't stop her from crying out both at being dragged and having her bare feet on the ground again. They were raw from walking so long without shoes, cut up and bleeding. But she tried to keep pace with him, stumbling along behind her brother while still horribly confused.

He made his way to the nearest lamp post and fumbled with his DComm which was on a lanyard around his neck, pressing buttons so they could go home. "Uh...you gotta hold on tight, right Buwny?" He said, his finger hovering over the activation button.

Buwny nodded and was about to explain the lamp post system a little more when Alec pressed the button. Only giving your sister the warning to 'hold on tight' was not exactly sufficient information.

Mona certainly wasn't expecting that at all, and the warning was not sufficient at all. She let out a yelp that turned in to a mass of coughing and sputtering when they got on the other side. She wound up rolling as they exited, coming to a stop with her face down in the sand.

"I...it...aiiii..."

"Mou...sand doesn't taste very good Monako. Stop eating it." Alec said, squatting down and poking her head with a finger.

"Alec... you jerk..." Mona groaned, trying to sit up.

"I warned you fair and square." The six year old said, crossing his arms and nodding.

"No you didn't! You said 'hold on to something' and then we went somewhere with sand!"

"Axoryi. Its the beach! The beach is fun. I like living on the beach. But Papa doesn't."

Mona groaned and sat up, hissing at the uncomfortable sensation of sand in her burn.

"Where's Papa, Alec... ?" she asked through clenched teeth. She was hurt, and she needed to do something about it before it got worse.

Pointing up the beach, Alec began to slowly trudge through the sand towards their parent's house.

Mona got to her feet, trying not to cry at the sand in her cuts. She wobbled along behind her brother, hoping she won't stumble and fall again.
